Tour

An ustad, his sons
and a cause

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons will perform in five US cities in July and August

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan will tour the US and perform at five cities in July and August. He will be accompanied by his sons Amaan and Ayaan.

His 2001 concert tour is called Notes of Hope, and is organised by Asha for Education in collaboration with Sulekha online magazine and eShakti.com. The online magazine also sells tickets.

"As a global Indian cultural community that thrives on free expression, Sulekha understands and appreciates the critical importance of educating underprivileged children in India," the magazine says on its promo page.

Sulekha also says it is contributing nearly $10,000 or Rs 5 lakh to various causes, including Asha for Education, CRY and AID.

The magazine, which runs on reader-contributed content, plans a Yellow Pages directory of Indians worldwide.

The organisers plan to use all profits from the tour for education of the poor in India.

You can read more about the sarod, the ustad and the sarod museum he has set up in Gwalior -- all at his website, simply called sarod.com. You can also hear samples of his music there.
