Review
Eric Chapelle lives in the US, and loves India. His music, mostly composed on the piano, is soft and sentimental
Our Time
Most of the 14 compositions here are serene tributes to nature.
They have the piano in the lead with synthetic strings and woodwinds in the background. It is this constant dialogue between acoustic and synthetic instruments that adds to the feeling of calm and nostalgia.
The first seven compositions might make you feel this is essentially ambience music on the piano. The eighth piece, Unconditional love, is a bit of a surprise with no piano at all. And from then onwards, the pieces tend to have a more dynamic balance between the piano and other instruments like the drum pads and oboe. Child's play is a lullaby-like piano piece again.
Eric Chapelle, the composer, has had a long association with India, where he spent his early years and hence the name of his record label -- Hamsa. But the music itself remains within the definitions of Western music. The spiritual themes are perhaps inspired by the philosophy of India.
