Ragas for Jesus (Tamil)
Karnatak music for Christian devotionals? Yes. Ruth sings competent south Indian classical. Her father Paul has written eight songs and set them to ragas like Hamsadhwani, Todi, Yamunakalyani, Saramati, Reetigowla and Kalyani.
There is even a traditional ragamalika with Saveri, Nattakurunji, Dhanyasi, Mohana, Mukari, Purvi Kalyani and Madhyamavati. The proceeds of this cassette go to Christian charities.

Veerappa Naika (Kannada film)
Vishnuvardhan starred in this film full of nationalistic sentiment. Vandemataram is one of the better songs in the album. Music is by the young Rajesh Ramanathan. The film was a moderate hit.
Gadibidi Krishna (Kannada film)
This Shivarajkumar film was made by the hit producer Bharatidevi. The music and lyrics are by Hamsalekha. The tape comes with the songs of another film, Hridayanjali, with music by Rajan Nagendra.

Nikhil Joshi is 16 and a computer buff. He also plays the guitar Karnatak style.
Nikhil has trained under Suma Sudhindra and R R Keshavamurthy, and displays considerable prowess on his instrument.
This devotional tape is produced with an eye on popular tastes, with an orchestra of the flute and the synthesizer.
Sri Gananatha, the first lesson for any Karnatak music students, opens the tape. Sharanu Siddhi Vinayaka, Dasana madiko enna, Bhagyadalakshmi baaramma and Rama mantrava japiso are among the compositions he has played. Taaraka bindige is well rendered.
